The Roving Artist - Guest of Honor Margret-Ann Miller

Hello! My name is Margret-Ann, and I am a needle felt artist. I was born in Toledo, Ohio where I still reside.

I started needle felting quite by accident several years ago. I have been a quilter for over twenty years and I bought a little needle felting kit at a national quilt convention. I liked the 2D kit and wanted to go further. I tried a 3D needle felted hand at a doll convention in Columbus, Ohio in 2011 and I knew I was finding my artistic passion. Fate played a hand in 2013 when I forget to bring the cord to my sewing machine to a quilting retreat but I did bring a bag of wool roving and some felting needles to experiment with in my spare time. I ended up designing a dragon and working on needle felting one for three days straight. It would be two more years before I got really serious about needle felting. Everything has snowballed since then, however, and I have been on a wonderfully wild ride!

Wool is my clay, and I can sculpt almost anything from it. I use many types of natural fibers in my work, and I hand-dye a lot of these fibers to get just the right color. I hope you enjoy my creations as I have a head full, waiting in line. As my grandmother used to say, “I can see it in my mind’s eye.” I see a lot there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to be born.
