Many of us are passionate about our work on free and open source software, and believe it is important, but sometimes it is difficult to express why.  "Freedom" is often used as an explanation, which is a powerful motivator, but sometimes what we mean by that feels vague.  This talk explores an ethical grounding of free software, free culture, and other user freedom issues through the lens of maximizing agency... not just for ourselves, but for everyone.
