Since long before the Inquisition, both institutions and individuals have been trying to control access to information: sometimes by destroying it, more often by seeking to restrict its circulation, whether for financial gain or social power. We will discuss how information control has happened historically, how it is happening right now, depictions of it in fiction, and how it might play out in the future.
