Ada Palmer, manga scholar and specialist in the history of global censorship, discusses censorship of anime and manga in Japan, the formative effects of WWII wartime and postwar censorship on the modern manga world, controversies over the gekiga movement toward adult and mature themes in manga, parallels and differences between manga censorship and comics censorship in other regions, and the censorship of manga and anime in translation and US/international release. Paul Kemner, longtime anime fan, covers how Japanese culture is chopped or reinterpreted from anime in the US.
